What Do You Want Your Kids to Remember About You?

Okay, that headline is a little dramatic. But stay with me — this one matters.
We get one life. One run at this whole messy, beautiful, exhausting, wonderful thing called motherhood. And somewhere in the chaos of packed lunches and toddler meltdowns and endless to-do lists, it is really easy to put yourself — your health, your energy, your joy — at the very bottom of the list.
Until "later." Until the kids are older. Until things slow down.
But here's what I've learned after years of working with moms: later has a way of becoming never.
The Question That Changes Everything
I want you to close your eyes for a second (metaphorically — you're reading, I know).
Picture the people who love you most. Your kids. Your partner. Your closest friends. And ask yourself:
What do I want them to say about how I lived? |
Not how you looked. Not how clean your house was. Not how perfectly you packed snacks.
How did you show up? How did you feel? What kind of energy did you bring into the room — and into their lives?
Did they see you take care of yourself? Did they grow up watching a woman who chose her health, moved her body, and nourished herself with the same love she gave everyone else?
Because here's the truth: your kids are watching. And the habits you model right now — at the dinner table, on the yoga mat, in how you talk about food and your body — those are the ones they're quietly filing away.
Healthy Habits Are a Legacy, Not a Luxury
When I talk about healthy living, I'm not talking about perfection. I am not talking about a spotless pantry or a flawless workout streak.
I'm talking about the small, consistent things that add up to a life you're genuinely proud of.
Things like:
Moving your body a few times a week — even if it's a 15-minute Pilates session during naptime
Sitting down to eat a real meal instead of grazing on your toddler's leftovers
Cooking simple, nourishing food and inviting your kids into the process
Choosing rest without guilt
Saying "I take care of myself because I love my family" — and meaning it
None of these requires a gym membership, a fancy meal plan, or two free hours every morning. They require a decision.
The right time doesn't magically appear. You create it — five minutes at a time, one small choice at a time. |
What This Actually Looks Like in a Real Mom Life
I know what you're thinking. You don't have time. You're too tired. You'll start on Monday.
I've been there. I've said all of it.
But what I've also experienced — and what I hear from the moms I work with — is that when you start treating your health as non-negotiable, something shifts. You have more patience. More energy. More presence. You stop running on empty and start actually showing up.
And your kids notice.
Not because you lecture them about vegetables or drag them to workout classes. But because they see a mom who values herself. Who moves. Who cooks with them. Who doesn't disappear into exhaustion.
That is the legacy. That is what they will remember.
Start Right Now — Not Someday
You don't need a big overhaul. You don't need a complete pantry refresh or a new workout wardrobe.
You just need to decide.
Decide that the version of yourself you want to be remembered as — the mom who was vibrant and present and healthy — is worth showing up for right now, today, in this season of life. Even if it's imperfect. Especially if it's imperfect.
Pick one thing this week. Just one. Move your body for 10 minutes. Cook one meal with your kids. Drink your water. That's it. That's where it starts. |
If you want somewhere to start, I've got you. The blog is full of naptime-friendly Pilates routines, toddler-approved recipes, and simple healthy habit ideas built around real family life — no perfection required.
